Two days ahead of the start of the 2002-2003 campaign, Manager Alex Smith was reviewing the preparations for the new campaign and was positive about the prospects for the Tangerines this season: "We have now completed all bar one of our training sessions for the opening match of the 2002-2003 season. It is at this stage that you can feel a real sense of optimism and hope for what lies ahead. Our preparations have been as good as we had over the last few years and without any mishaps or set-backs. I am very pleased about bringing in Arnar Gunnlaugsson along with Allan Smart and Kevin McGowne. These new players add to the diversity within the squad and bring with them lots of experience, strength and flair. It is now coming near the time where the real ball comes out and actions speak louder than words. We are all very exited to get out there and show what we can do."
