SADNESS AS JIM MCLEAN GOES

16th October 2000

There was sadness in the dressing room area at Tannadice today as the coaching and playing staff faced up to the end of Jim McLean's time as Chairman and Managing Director of Dundee United.

Manager Alex Smith paid tribute to the most successful team boss in United's history after his weekend resignation. Alex, however, has stressed to his team the need to stay focused on the battle to get away from the bottom of the SPL. "We are all very sad that Jim has gone and I hope that people remember all that he has done for Dundee United. He took this Club to European finals and the top of the Scotland game and I do not see that kind of thing happening again. However, life has to go on and it is important that the players concentrate on getting things right on the park."
