SMITH KNOWS WHO HE WANTS

19th October 2000

Alex Smith is bidding to add a new face to his United squad for the weekend trip west to Celtic Park. At the same time, the United Manager is hopeful of offloading several players as soon as possible. His target remains a mystery, as does the list of those who could be departing the Tannadice scene, although that is understood to include the names of a few of the imports.

Smith explained, "I am clear in my own mind as to who can do a job for the Club in the present climate. I believe that I am close to reaching agreement with the player I want. If signed, he could play a part at Parkhead."

Almost certain to face Celtic is hard-working midfielder Craig Easton, now free of suspension and recovered from injury. And there's a chance too that ex-Parkhead midfielder Dave Hannah, an injury absentee last weekend, will be back amongst Smith's starters for the clash with the SPL table-toppers.
