United finally got some breaks in front of goal to capitalise on their much improved play of recent weeks and were two goals ahead of Dunfermline at half-time.
Some slack defending in the second half allowed the Pars to draw level before an 88th minute penalty from Charlie Miller secured the first three points of the season.
The very positive attitude of the recent signings has had a very beneficial effect on the whole team and this victory could be the season's turning point.
