Alex Smith finally got his man when Oxford United striker Derek Lilley completed his return move north of the border. The 26 year-old had looked certain to complete a midweek signing when agreeing to switch to Tannadice from the Manor Ground. However, a hitch between the two clubs saw the completion of a two and a half year deal delayed by 24 hours.
Lilley was immediately promoted into the Tangerines top team squad for Sunday's SPL visit by Rangers. Said the newcomer, "It is great to have finally completed matters. I feel that I was destined to play for United, after a 1997 deal fell through at the last minute. I am always confident of scoring, and if chances come my way I am sure that I will get my share."
Alex Smith confirmed, "Derek will add strength and pace up front, and is the ideal type to get onto the end of the service supplied by the likes of Beto Naveda and Charlie Miller".
