United Manager Alex Smith confirmed reports coming from England on Tuesday afternoon that the Club had agreed a fee with Oxford United for former Morton and Leeds United striker Derek Lilley.
The Scot is keen to get back north of the border and has been in Dundee for talks with Alex. If he agrees to the switch to the SPL, he could make his debut against Rangers on Sunday.
This is the third time in recent years that United have made a move for the former Under-21 international. During his spell as Manager Tommy McLean agreed a deal with Morton, only to be pipped by Leeds at the last minute and a year or so later Lilley almost came to Tannadice on loan.
