With Scottish Cup ties beckoning, Alex Smith is giving thought to the situation regarding his youngsters currently farmed out on loan.
Stephen McConalogue and Kevin McDonald at Morton, and Blair Sturrock (Brechin) could become "cup-tied" and therefore ineligible for United duty in the competition this season. That prospect won't apply to David Winters at Forfar as the Loons have already been knocked out.
Smith explained, "The loan deal ensures that these players don't face United in the Cup, but I may also prevent the likes of McConalogue taking part for Morton as he may come into the reckoning for us again soon. However, I won't stand in the way of Blair Sturrock getting valuable experience if he's picked to play for Brechin at Ibrox. That could benefit us in the longer-term."
