To the delight of boss Alex Smith, United went into the winter break with a 2-0 home success against Motherwell on Tuesday. That leaves United trailing second bottom St Mirren by just two points and looking forward to the resumption of hostilities at the end of the month.
"Hopefully yesterday has wiped away all the bad memories from last year. It was a fresh start to the New Year and a fine performance and now we are looking forward to the rest of the Season," said Alex.
He made special mention of the performance of young fullback Jamie McCunnie, at 17 playing only his second game. "We knew what a great prospect Jamie was and he has now shown it. He has a big future ahead of him."
United hope to find out on Monday 8th January 2001, when the SFA's offices in Glasgow reopen, what punishment goalie Alan Combe will receive for stepping out of line at the end of Saturday's controversial defeat at Hibs.
