Back in training after a short break, the United players have been put through their paces by boss Alex Smith and his backroom staff to check for any signs of cobwebs. As expected though, the entire playing staff have been given the thumbs-up by the Manager.
"The fitness of the players was never going to be a concern," he said. "I hope the break has served to allow them to mentally recharge their batteries after a difficult first half of the season. A trip overseas was not considered worthwhile this time as I felt the players needed complete rest."
With an assessment of the injury comeback men also having been made, Smith is optimistic that the likes of Jim Paterson and Stephen Wright will return to action in the near future. He added, "I don't like setting dates, but I think Jim will at least be involved in second string games by the end of February, and Stephen will follow him shortly after. Both are progressing well, as are Beto Naveda and John Licina who should be ready immediately from the restart."
