Dundee United today announced the signing of former Queens Park defender Barry Douglas on a three year contract.
The highly rated in-demand 20 year old had been the subject of interest from several clubs, both in the Championship in England the SPL, but decided to join up at Tannadice after meeting Manager Peter Houston and visiting the Club last week.
The left sided defender made his first team debut at Queens Park in 2008 and was a regular first team player last season, scoring eight goals and winning three player of the year awards at the club. His performances were monitored by Peter Houston who moved quickly to bring him to Tannadice as soon as his availability was known.
Peter Houston said, "Injuries to Paul Dixon last season highlighted the need for additional cover for that position and to strengthen the options available to me in defence. Barry Douglas is a young, hungry, player who will not only address this situation but will also, in time, challenge Paul Dixon for the left back position. As a Manager, it's always good to have competition for places throughout the squad.
"However, I'd also stress that Barry has been signed as one for the future as part of the Club's development strategy. He has great talent and great potential, but I know I can also trust him to step right into the first team if necessary.
"There were a number of other clubs interested in Barry and I'm therefore delighted that he has chosen Dundee United to further his career."
