WORLD CUP DANNY

22nd May 2001

United have received confirmation that Danny Griffin's season will be extended into next month after he was included in the Northern Ireland squad for two upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Griffin will line up against Bulgaria in Belfast on June 2 and four days later will face the highly rated Czech Republic away. "It means a late finish for Danny, but that should not be too much of a problem as his season did not really start until around Christmas because of his injury problems," said boss Alex Smith. "To make sure he still gets a proper break, he will come back a few days later than the other boys when pre-season training starts."

Meanwhile, Tuesday saw Alex open contract negotiations with Craig Easton. The under-21 star's present deal expires in October and United want him fixed up on a new one long before then.
