Tony Smith today rejoined Airdrie on a free transfer
Tony was Paul Sturrock's second signing of the 1999 close season and came to Tannadice on freedom of contract from Airdrie. The small and tenacious left-sided player began his senior career with Hearts but it was with Airdrie, his home town club, that he made his name and he served them for six years.
A very popular dressing room character at Tannadice, Tony made four starts and five substitute appearances during 1999/2000 season and although in August 2000 he made a good impression on new manager Alex Smith with his enthusiastic attitude and made a one further start and for appearances from the bench during the 2000/01 season he failed to established himself as first-team regular and his return to New Broomfield gives him the opportunity to play regular first team football again.
