Danny Griffin has been named by Alex Smith as Dundee United captain for the coming season and the manager feels that the 23-year-old Northern Ireland international is the right man to take on this extra responsibility.
He explained: "We have three or four natural choices and Danny was one of them. He's an international player, he's at a good age and he's very ambitious."
Danny has some previous experience having skippered St. Johnstone in a match against St. Mirren on 26 August 1995 just two weeks after his eighteenth birthday, making him the youngest captain in St. Johnstone's history. He retained the Saints'captaincy for four consecutive games but has not performed the role again until now.
