Paul Gallacher's speedy progress in the game took another step forward this week, when the young 'keeper earned his first taste of full international involvement.
Although Gal had once again been drafted into Alex Smith's Under-21 squad, top team boss Craig Brown asked the United number one to provide World Cup qualifying cover for Neil Sullivan and Robert Douglas.
"I would have been delighted to stay with the under 21s to pick up more caps, but this is a great opportunity for me," said Gallacher. "Working with Neil and Robert will be a great experience and is bound to improve my game."
Alex Smith described Paul's fast-track promotion to the full Scotland international squad as a "massive boost for the player and for the club".
"It's a massive boost for Paul, who has been in great form for us at club level," said the United boss. "He is now in the group of goalkeepers working with the top international squad and that can only benefit him and Dundee United."
Another Tangerine call-up came by way of winger Jim Paterson being hauled back into the Under-21s set-up. 'Pattie' had originally been left out of the squad as he had only recently returned to domestic action after a long-layoff, but injuries to other young internationalists resulted in Jim's recall. "A nice wee boost for Jim" was how Alex Smith described the developments.
