SMITH’S FIR PARK WARNING

3rd August 2001

While United travel to Motherwell on Saturday with confidence high after their battling derby draw last weekend, manager Alex Smith has warned his players will have to fight hard for three points. "We've got belief and confidence in ourselves, but Fir Park is always a hard place to go and we will have to be totally committed to win this one," said Alex. "Motherwell had a bad result at Dunfermline last week, but I'd expect a positive response from them." On Friday Alex was still mulling over his team selection, but Craig Easton, Jim Hamilton and Jim Paterson are all in his thoughts and he is expected to leave it late before deciding his Fir Park line-up. "I have a lot of options and, while that is a reasonably good problem to have, you still have to make sure you strike the right balance," he said.
