PATERSON AND WRIGHT MAY PLAY

20th September 2001

Midfielder Jim Paterson could be involved when Rangers visit Tannadice on Saturday evening, though boss Alex Smith has decreed the under-21 star will only be used if he is 100% fit.

Paterson has been making good progress in training this week after being sidelined for the best part of a fortnight and has pushed himself into the picture for Saturday.

"Jim's getting stronger each day and he has a chance, but it is one of
these games where only players who are fully fit can be considered," said Alex. Paterson's return to full training leaves only Jamie Fullarton and David Hannah on the injury list, though Jim Lauchlan and Jamie McCunnie are both suspended on Saturday.

With David Hannah sidelined because of a knee ligament injury, the United boss may hand the job of organising the defence to Stephen Wright, who appeared as a sub at Pittodrie after almost 11 months out due to injury.

"Stephen is an experienced player and that is something we'll need on
Saturday," said Alex today. "However, we do have several options open to us and we'll have a better idea over the next few days of how we are going to play it."
