There was mixed news today concerning two of the United players who have been on international duty with Scotland for the past week.
On the plus side goalkeeper Paul Gallacher's excellent early season form was rewarded with a place on the bench for the full side's goalless draw with Croatia at Hampden on Saturday. As Celtic 'keeper Robert Douglas not travelling to Belgium, Gallacher will again be among the subs for Wednesday evening's big clash with the Belgians in Brussels.
Not on the plane that left Glasgow on Monday, however, was under-21 midfielder Jim Paterson. He has a throat infection and was not deemed fit enough to be considered for tomorrow's match.
''Jim complained of feeling well after our draw with Croatia on Friday and his condition got worse over the weekend,'' said manager Alex Smith.
While the United manager, in his Scotland Under-21 role, is unable to use Jim this week Alex does believe he will have the player ready for Saturday's SPL visit to Livingston.
