Alex Smith was in reflective mood on Monday afternoon as he contemplated the 1-5 defeat by Celtic in Glasgow on Saturday. United lost goals at key moments in the match with the first after seven minutes, the second just before half time and the fourth and fifth in the final minutes of a disappointing match from a Tangerine perspective.
"My initial reaction was one of disappointment with the scale of the result," commented United's Team Boss."We didn't play particularly well as a collective unit in terms of passing and defending. It was in stark contrast to the previous week in the Hibernian match where we fought, harassed and overcame the Easter Road side's talent with these qualities and the execution of our goals. On Saturday, we displayed none of these qualities other than at Jim McIntyre's goal."
Alex discussed the confidence required to win away against the Old Firm. "There has to be a high level of belief to win at Celtic Park and we never really had enough of that. We are a young side and have to learn from this experience and realise that to obtain positive results in Glasgow, you have to be mentally tough. Hopefully our team will team will acquire this."
