ATANGANA HEANEY AND LICINA ARE FREE TO GO

11th October 2001

Out-of-favour trio Mvondo Atangana, Neil Heaney, and John Licina have been advised they can fix themselves up with other clubs.

None of the three have featured in any of Alex Smith's first team squads this season and the manager has now decided to step up his bid to prune the playing staff.

Cameroon striker Atangana made an early impact when he arrived at Tannadice last season, but has faded since. French defender Licina has been a handy squad member in the past, but his involvement has lessened since Smith began to provide more options at the back.

The two foreign lads will now look for clubs abroad, but winger Heaney is set to return south of the border where he has served the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal, and Darlington.

Smith said, "I've been saying for a while that I have to cut down the squad size a bit - it's better for everyone concerned. These three lads are still contracted with us but are free to look for clubs elsewhere where they may get regular games. A situation like this is never easy, but sometimes in football decisions have to be made, and we'd like to do all we can to help the three."
