The Women’s squad are on the road for the fourth game out of five this Sunday in the SBSSWPL2 as they make the short journey along the Tay to take on St Johnstone.
While this is normally viewed as a derby in the men’s game, the women’s side have rarely met, with this due to be only the fourth meeting between the two in the four years the United side have been in the senior ranks.
Last Sunday saw Gavin Beith’s side travel to Lesser Hampden only to return with a 3-1 defeat against Queen’s Park. This meant United fell to eighth with four points from four games.
The last meeting between the pair came on September 8th 2019 when United triumphed by the odd goal in five at home. The other two games ended with a 2-1 win for United and a 1-1 draw.
St Johnstone have started the season well, with seven points from four games. Their opening league game was postponed by a COVID outbreak at Kilmarnock before consecutive last minute winners at Stirling University and Partick Thistle. Another last minute goal earned a 2-2 draw with Hamilton Academical but they were defeated 8-1 in midweek by league leaders Aberdeen.
Squad wise, it is much the same for Gavin Beith as Philippa McCallum made her return to action last Sunday. Captain Keira Johnstone and Danni McGinley continue their progress from injury, however Ellie-Jai Reid remains a long term absentee.
Updates for this will be on Twitter @dundeeunitedwfc while highlights will be available on YouTube at a later time.
