Coach Maurice Malpas was particularly satisfied with the United Under 21 side's performance at Ochilview against Livingston yesterday. "The players maintained their recent good form," he said. "The performance may give the Manager a lot to think about in terms of first team selection for this Saturday's match with St Johnstone. I was especially pleased with the way we played up front with Winters, McConalogue and Thompson linking well in attack."
United's win meant that the Under 21's have picked up ten points out of twelve in their last four matches scoring eight goals and conceding just one. In the SPL Under 21 League yesterday, Rangers drew 0-0 with Celtic with Livingston's defeat allowing Rangers to climb to second in the table. With wins for Aberdeen, Hearts, Motherwell and Kilmarnock, United stay in sixth position with fourteen points, just six behind second place Rangers.
United play Motherwell next Monday at Tannadice with a 7.00pm kick-off, the Steelmen yesterday having defeated bottom of the table table Dundee 2-0.
