Dundee United can confirm goalkeeper Jack Newman will join Peterhead on loan.

The young shot-stopper gained valuable experience last season on loan at Spartans in the Lowland League and will now join the cinch League One side on a short deal until January 2023.

Jack links up with the Peterhead squad immediately, with an opportunity to play in their Premier Sports Cup tie tomorrow against Aberdeen.

Goalkeeping coach Craig Hinchliffe said: “Jack has impressed me as a young twenty-year-old goalkeeper since I have been back. We had discussions over the summer regarding his development and the aim was always to find the best loan option.

"Peterhead is a really good fit for him. Playing in a really strong league with a staff that we trust, while also allowing him to train full time with our first team squad will further develop him on his goalkeeping journey and we look forward to seeing him play first team games over the coming months."

Brian Grant, Head of Player Pathway and Loans added: "We think this is another stepping stone in Jacks development so that he is getting closer to being 1st team ready for Dundee United in the near future.

"He had a very successful spell with Spartans last season and this was the plan for Jack to get another loan but at a higher level. League One is going to be a very competitive this season with a number of full time teams and some that will feel they should be at a higher level.

"In recent years we have also formed a good relationship with both Peterhead and their manager Jim McNally - a former United player - and with the successful loans of Flynn Duffy and Kieran Freeman we are happy for Jack to continue his development with them."

We wish Jack all the best during his loan spell.
