Dundee United are delighted to announce the signing of Glenn Middleton on a permanent deal from Rangers.

The 22-times capped Scotland under-21 winger has penned a three-year contract after United agreed an undisclosed fee with the Ibrox side.

Glenn began his career at Norwich before moving to Rangers in 2018.

He has high-level European experience and made his competitive debut for the Glasgow side against FK Shkupi in the Europa League later that year.

The pacy attacker has also had loan spells at Hibernian, Bradford and St Johnstone where he was part of the squad that claimed the League and Scottish Cup double in 2021.

He becomes United sixth summer signing following the arrivals of Dylan Levitt, Steven Fletcher, Craig Sibbald, Mark Birighitti and Aziz Behich.

Glenn Middleton joins Dundee United

Dundee United Head Coach Jack Ross said: "I’m really excited to have Glenn here. He will be a brilliant addition to our squad.

"The fans will see the quality he can provide on the pitch but it’s up to me to get that out of him on a consistent basis.

"I’ve spoken about Mathew Cudjoe’s impact and ability to eliminate players and produce something out of nothing and Glenn can do that too.

"Glenn brings an attacking intent to the group.

"He’s a player I’ve already worked with in the past - albeit for a relatively short time.

"But I’ve always watched his career to see how he is progressing. He’s a really young man but he has a huge amount of potential and there’s still a lot he can achieve in his career.

"He spent four years at Rangers but I think he needed a fresh start and he’s admitted that himself.

"He’s played well against my teams as an opposition manager and also against Dundee United. It’s down to me to help him showcase his ability all the time.

"For a young man he has a lot of game time behind him at international level. To play 22 times for Scotland under-21s is impressive but the next step for him is can he progress his international career further?

"He can only do that by being a successful player at Dundee United.

"I’m delighted we’ve been able to get him here on a permanent deal so in terms of what Tony Asghar and the owner Mark Ogren have done so far in the transfer window. It’s been terrific."

Pace and versatility

Glenn MiddletonDundee United Sporting Director Tony Asghar said: "Bringing a player like Glenn Middleton to Dundee United is again a statement from the owner and the board at Dundee United.

"The Club is in the market to add quality players who are also at an age where we can add to their game.

"The gaffer was keen to add pace and versatility to his attacking options and Glenn brings that in abundance.

"We would like to thank Ross Wilson at Rangers for making this transfer possible."
