MAURICE PLEASED WITH IMPROVED PERFORMANCE

10th December 2001

Although United only drew 0-0 with Livingston at the weekend, the general feeling was that United were the better side and deserved the three points. Coach Maurice Malpas echoed this viewpoint. "It was a very difficult match for us considering Livingston's league position and form and we were very pleased with the attitude and discipline throughout the game in what was a very close match. I thought that we just edged it and am disappointed that we did not take all three points."

The United coach felt that the team had demonstrated improved form over the previous games against Kilmarnock and Hibernian. "After the last two performances, there was definitely an improved determination from the players to achieve what the Manager was asking for."

Maurice was pleased with some of the individual performances. "In what was a young team, Stephen Carson had his first start in the SPL. Again, Danny Griffin and Jim Lauchlan (pictured) were outstanding and young Stef (McConalogue) had his best game to date in the first team."

The downside for Maurice was the lack of goals. "Some of the things that we had worked on during the week came to fruition but sadly we could not get that final touch to score a goal."

United's goalless draw meant that for the third successive match, the team failed to find the net. This is now the longest non scoring sequence of matches this campaign. On the plus side, it was United's first clean sheet in the SPL since the 1-0 win over St Johnstone at Perth on August 11th.
