First Team

INTERNATIONAL ROUND-UP

15th September 2022

Dundee United could soon be adding a few new names to the Tannadice International Honours Board after five of our first team squad were called up to represent their country.

Aziz Behich (Australia), Dylan Levitt (Wales), Sadat Anaku (Uganda) and Finnish duo Carljohan Eriksson and Ilmari Niskanen will all be on international duty after Saturday's match with Rangers.

And after a trip to Ibrox at the weekend, our international contingent will be off on their travels.

Aziz Behich, 52 caps for Australia

Aziz has been selected for the Australia squad for their double-header with New Zealand. The left wing-back has had an illustrious international career, earning over half a century of caps since his international debut in 2012.

Born and raised in Melbourne, Aziz, was part of Australia's 2015 AFC Asian Cup-winning side, and starred in all of his country's group matches at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He also recently helped guide the Socceroos through an arduous World Cup qualification process for this year's tournament in Qatar.

Carljohan Eriksson 1 cap for Finland & Ilmari Niskanen 10 caps for Finland

Ilmari Niskanen and Carljohan Eriksson have once again been selected by Finland, with Head Coach Markku Kanerva calling the pair up for the UEFA Nations League matches with Romania and Montenegro.

Saku is fresh off the back of a vital penalty stop against Motherwell which saw him included in the SPFL Team of the Week for the first time since his January transfer from the Allsvenskan.

‘Huuhkajat’ colleague Immi provided an assist for Teemu Pukki in a 1-1 draw with Iceland in March and played 170 minutes of the last round of Nations League matches in June.

Dylan Levitt, 12 caps for Wales

Dylan Levitt only turns 22 in November but has already turned out a dozen times with Wales.

He was part of Wales squad that has qualified for the FIFA World Cup for the first time since 1958 and has earned another call-up from international boss Rob Page.

Dylan faced eventual winners Italy at Euro 2020 last summer, two months before an initial loan move to Tannadice. Wales take on Belgium, ranked second in the world, and Poland in the UEFA Nations League.

Sadat Happy Anaku, first international call-up for Uganda

After being named in a provisional 45-man squad for Uganda’s five-game tour of Europe and Asia earlier this year, Sadat Anaku could make his first appearance for The Cranes in friendlies against Libya and Tanzania.

Sadat, 21, made his first-team debut in the 2-1 Premier Sports Cup win at Livingston last month, coming off the bench to replace goalscorer Steven Fletcher.
