Dundee United are pleased to announce the signing of defender Loick Ayina on loan from Huddersfield until the end of the season.

Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the 19-year-old grew up in Paris and spent his youth playing for clubs in the local area, before securing a switch to Yorkshire giants Huddersfield Town.

Aged just 17, he racked up an impressive 47 appearances during the 2020/21 campaign across the Terriers’ B-team, U19s and U17s. Ayina now captains the reserves, whilst regularly training with the first team.

Former United midfielder Mark Fotheringham, now Huddersfield Town’s manager, awarded Ayina with his competitive debut earlier this month, as he started against Preston North End in the FA Cup Fourth Round.

After a successful short-term loan spell with Boston United, where he claimed two man-of-the-match awards in his five matches, the Frenchman heads north of the border looking to further his experience in senior football whilst helping to bolster Liam Fox’s defensive options heading into the final few months of the season.

"Highly Recommended"

Head Coach Liam Fox expressed his delight in securing Ayina’s services until the end of the season “Loick is someone we have watched for a period of time and we were instantly interested in bringing him to Tannadice.

“He’ll provide vital competition for places in the backline and comes highly recommended from Huddersfield Town. We’re looking forward to working with him for the remainder of the season.”
