TEAM MUST CUT DOWN ON ERRORS

27th December 2001

The Festive holiday programme has so far been a disappointment for United Team Manager Alex Smith. "I was pleased with our performance at Ibrox however our defeat on Saturday was extremely disappointing. We didn't seem at any stage to get into any pattern of cohesive play. We allowed Hearts to squeeze down space in midfield while we didn't utilise the space behind their own midfield. That said, credit must be given to Hearts for the way that they denied us the space to play. One of the main concerns recently has been our conceding of goals. We definitely need to tighten up in that area and to stop making individual errors which can prove so costly. We need to go back to simple basic defending, clearing our lines early and to quite simply play our football further upfield. Having said all that, yesterday's game is now history and we must look forward to playing Celtic here at Tannadice this coming Saturday."

Having analysed the defeat by the Tynecastle side, Alex contemplated the forthcoming visit of the SPL Champions. "Celtic are obviously a strong side and their results over the past eighteen months have been quite phenomenal. They have some outstanding players and if we are to achieve success on the day, we will have to have absolute concentration from the players. There will be no room for error because Celtic are capable of punishing any mistakes. Hopefully our team will play as they played at Ibrox and take a positive result from this match."

The match with Celtic is all ticket and kicks off at 5.35pm. Tickets are available from the United Ticket Office and the United Souvenir shop. FURTHER DETAILS ARE AVAILABLE BY CLICKING ON THE ADMISSION SECTION ON THE MENU BAR.
