Dundee United are delighted to announce the signing of goalkeeper Jack Walton, who joins the club on loan from Luton Town until the end of the 2023/24 campaign subject to international clearance.
After stints with both Bury and Bolton Wanderers during his younger years, Walton made the switch to Barnsley as a 15-year-old.
His stellar and consistent performances with the club’s youth sides saw him gain international recognition, as he was included in England’s U18s squad in 2015.
The shot-stopper’s inevitable breakthrough into the first-team at Oakwell soon followed, before he cemented himself as the club’s number one ‘keeper towards the end of the 2019/20 season.
An impressive run of five clean sheets in nine Championship matches for Walton helped the Tykes defy the odds to retain their second-tier status against the odds. The following campaign, he made 24 appearances as Barnsley reached the semi-final of the promotion play-offs.
As a decade in South Yorkshire concluded, the academy graduate had turned out more than 60 times in red and white and averaged a shutout every 3.9 matches.
The talented 25-year-old was snapped up by Premier League-bound Luton Town earlier this year, and was part of the squad which succeeded in getting the Bedfordshire-based outfit’s historic promotion over the line.
Walton, heading north of the border with a rich pedigree from multiple years of regular dependency across various levels of the English game, is ready to immediately integrate himself within the first-team setup at Tannadice.
Demanding Standards
"Jack is a very good young 'keeper who commands his area and will put demands on the defenders in front of him by being vocal and a good organiser" said United Manager Jim Goodwin upon the announcement of Jack's Tannadice switch.
He continued "Having played a number of games in the English Championship, he has also been part of two promotion-winning teams already in his career and we are very grateful to Luton for their help in getting the loan deal over the line."
