Dundee United Women are delighted to announce Rachel Todd as their new captain ahead of the SWPL1 campaign kicking off this weekend.
Following the departure of Danni McGinley last week, Graeme Hart has moved quickly to fill the armband left vacant.
Rachel can play in a number of positions and has been at the club since August 2021. Speaking to dundeeunitedfc.co.uk the 26-year-old was elated after being given the armband.
“I’m delighted to have been named as captain, there’s a lot of leaders in the group but to be recognised and selected is an honour".
“It was our first season in the top flight and this year we will know what to expect. We've made a lot of positive movements this summer and hopefully, we can use our experience to kick on".
Head Coach Graeme Hart admits there were a number of contenders for the role.
“It was a tough decision to be fair, there are plenty of leaders in the squad but we just felt that the way Rachel is within the group and how she’s come back for pre-season, it was the right call for the team. We're delighted she has taken up the role and we're excited for the season ahead!"
DUFCW travel to Partick Thistle this Sunday in their SWPL1 curtain-raiser.
