United mark a historic occasion with a scintillating display!

THE TEAM TALK

It was no surprise that Jim Goodwin named an unchanged starting eleven after last weekend's demolition of Partick Thistle at Firhill.

There was good news in the camp as Declan Glass returned to the matchday squad following a short illness.

OFF TO A FLYER

Two goals inside the opening 15 minutes had United in sight of three cinch Championship points.

It could have been more following loud appeals that Kai Fotheringham's corner had crossed the line and Louis Moult was denied a goal for being in an offside position.

Just moments after he was ruled out, Moult did have our opener with an almost identical move as he tapped home Glenn Middleton's cross from close range.

With fourteen minutes on the clock, it was Ross Docherty who doubled our lead, scoring his first league goal of the season. A clever chop inside from Fotheringham opened up space before his deflected effort found Docherty at the edge of the box. Our number 23 kept his cool - beating his man inside the area before slamming the ball into the roof of the net.

Michael McKenna almost pulled one back in Arbroath's best move of the half but his sliding effort at the back post fizzed wide of the mark.

The visitors were lucky to keep ten men on the park as David Gold escaped with just a yellow card as he cynically brought down Middleton as he and Watt raced clear.

United had the game all but wrapped up two minutes from the half when Fotheringham got in on the goalscoring act. A wicked delivery from McMann wasn't dealt with by Derek Gaston who lost grip of the ball at the feet of Fotheringham. As the ball rolled towards the goal, our number 18 was on hand to finish the job from just yards out.

Into the second half and United picked up exactly where they left off.

13 minutes after the restart, Watt continued his goalscoring form after delightfully lifting the ball over an outstretched leg before firing low into the bottom corner.

Moult had his second of the evening in similar style to his first. Middleton was the provider once more, driving down the left before iring a low ball across the face of goal for Moult to slam home.

Three minutes from time, substitute Mathew Cudjoe completed the rout with a superb strike into the top corner. Fending off his man and getting back to his feet, a relentless run into the box and a cool finish had us six to the good.
