Dundee United Women avoided a cup shock on Sunday as they defeated Dyce 5-0 to progress in the Scottish Gas Women’s Scottish Cup.
Goals from Jo Fraser, Robyn Smith, a Keira Chuter double and an own goal at a chilly Dyce 3G meant that United moved on to the fourth round.
Team Talk
Graeme Hart handed debuts to recent signings Megan Robb and Ailey Tebbett while Jo Fraser and Brodie Greenwood came into the first starting XI of 2024.
The hosts play in the SWFL North, but had only lost once this season in all competitions prior to Sunday, also defeating higher league opposition to get to this stage of the competition.
United opened the scoring after three minutes when Jo Fraser rose highest to head home a Cassie Cowper free kick.
The lead was doubled in the 15th minute; a short Georgie Robb corner saw Cassie Cowper send a cross into the box that was sliced into her own net by an unfortunate Dyce defender.
Dyce keeper Faith Maan was in excellent form throughout the game, denying efforts from Brodie Greenwood and Fraser as United went into the break two goals ahead.
Into the break
Sub Keira Chuter came on in the 58th minute and within 60 seconds she found the net; Fraser slipping the ball through for the attacker to lift over the oncoming Maan.
United hit the woodwork on the hour mark when Georgie Robb was denied by Mann again.
With five minutes remaining, Robyn Smith added to the tally when she raced into a Tash Bruce through ball before slotting past Mann as she capitalised on a slip by the otherwise excellent keeper.
United made it five as the game inched into injury time; subs Amy Taylor and Chuter involved as the former’s cross found the latter who rifled into the net for her second of the afternoon.
