Dundee United Football Club Women are delighted to confirm the appointment of Suzy Shepherd as our new Head Coach.
The former Scotland internationalist comes to Foundation Park after departing her previous job at Boroughmuir Thistle at the end of last season.
Shepherd has previous experience managing in the top flight of Scottish women’s football with a two-season stint at Spartans between 2016 and 2017. She then took stewardship at the aforementioned Thistle in November 2017.
Throughout her playing career, Shepherd can count Hibernian, Spartans, New Jersey Wildcats and IBV Vestmannaeyjar among the clubs she played for.
Upon being appointed, Shepherd commented, “I’m excited to get going, I’ve always been involved in women’s football and I know how big a club Dundee United are. After a few conversations with Ross Starke and Paul Cowie and understanding what their vision was in terms of where they wanted to take the girls' and women’s programme, it was something that really interested me. It’s along the lines and beliefs of where I think women’s football should be heading.”
With United currently sitting in tenth in the Scottish Power Women’s Premier League, one of three clubs sitting on ten points, Shepherd is eager to get going with the task at hand.
“If you look at the post-split teams there’s only six points between five of them so there’s still plenty of games to go. There’s loads of quality in the changing room so it’s just about getting the self-belief back, the confidence up and taking it one game at a time.”
“I like a challenge, I like challenging my players and I just can’t wait to get started.“
DUFCW are back in action at Foundation Park this Sunday as we host Heart of Midlothian in our final pre-split clash.
A reminder that we have free entry for United Season Ticket holders.
