LOUIS MOULT TO REMAIN AT TANNADICE UNTIL 2025

21st May 2024

Dundee United are delighted to confirm that Louis Moult has triggered an extension in his contract with the club, with the striker set to remain at Tannadice until the summer of 2025.

Formerly a talismanic figure at Fir Park, Moult arrived in the city of Discovery with a point to prove following a disheartening period south of the border.

Wasting no time in doing so, the Englishman registered three assists and rounded off the scoring himself on his debut against Arbroath, setting the tone for a truly sensational campaign in tangerine.

The hitman would go on to maintain a phenomenal strike rate of a goal every 134 minutes across all competitions, concluding the term with 20 in total - the best return of his senior career.

Since 2011/12, only Scotland international and Premiership top scorer Lawrence Shankland has rippled the net more frequently for United in a league season.

Notable strikes included a crucial midweek winner at Cappielow, headline-grabbing long-range lob against Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Matchday 30 and his conversion of a vital spot-kick to sink fellow title-challengers Raith Rovers on a table-turning afternoon in DD3.

His status as the division’s most fruitful player was rubber-stamped on the final day, with a goal and assist bringing his 2023/24 haul to 24 contributions - one better than Jags veteran Brian Graham. A staggering 32% of our league goals involved Moult in one way or another.

The importance of his prolificacy to our Championship triumph was recognised by the SPFL as he scooped the second tier’s Player of the Season Award, whilst he also received a place in the PFA Scotland Team of the Year alongside three other Terrors colleagues.

With our return to the top table of Scottish football confirmed, the 32-year-old is hungry to add to his 39 Premiership strikes garnered during his time in the claret and amber of Motherwell.

‘IT WAS NEVER UP FOR DISCUSSION IN MY MIND’

A buoyant Moult commented: “I’m delighted to remain here for next season - from the minute I joined, I’ve really enjoyed myself.

“Everything that comes with this football club, the family feel, fanbase, area, connection with the local community, made it a no-brainer of a decision. It was never even up for discussion in my mind!”

He continued: “I was pleased with my contribution to last season but I’m not done yet - I still have that fire in my belly to keep proving people wrong and that’s something I’m looking forward to doing. I can’t wait for next season.”

‘A CRUCIAL PART OF OUR PLANS’

Securing the signature of a second title-winning star in as many weeks, United Manager Jim Goodwin added: “Ensuring Louis remained a United player for 2024/25 was a crucial part of our plans - his goal return since his arrival last summer has been remarkable and he played an invaluable role in our successes last season.

“In addition to his contributions on the park, his experience and professionalism in the dressing room provide vital support to other members of the squad in their development, both young and old, and he is exactly the type of character I’d like to remain at Tannadice."
