DUFCW | Ashley Robertson and Freya Brien Complete Double Loan Swoop From Tynecastle

10th August 2024

Dundee United FC Women are delighted to confirm the loan signings of Freya Brien and Ashley Robertson from Heart of Midlothian, subject to SFA approval.

The duo took their first steps into senior football, having progressed through the Jam Tarts’ youth pathway.

17-year-old Robertson and Brien, 16, are both midfielders and will bolster the squad ahead of our opening Scottish Power Women’s Premier League clash away to Celtic.

Robertson admits that she has already done her homework on the squad after talking to former United loanee Brodie Greenwood.

“It’s great to be a part of the club, everyone has been really welcoming. I previously spoke with Brodie Greenwood who was here last season, and she really enjoyed it and felt she grew quite a lot as a player, and it's something I'm keen to do while I'm here.”

Brien is also keen to get underway with the club as she looks to make her senior debut.

“I’m looking forward to gaining some experience and getting game time under my belt as this will be my first experience of top flight football.”

Head Coach Suzy Shepherd was full of praise for the duo after impressing in training and pre-season fixtures.

“Ashley is an excellent young player who has a great attitude and gives everything in training and in games. She can also add energy, aggression and composure to our team and I look forward to seeing her playing in the top flight.”

“I’m looking forward to working with Freya. She’s a young player who understands the game, likes to get on the ball, link up the play and has an eye for goal.”
