MANAGER BEMOANS INCONSISTENT PERFORMANCES

3rd February 2002

Manager Alex Smith was keen to leave yesterday's defeat behind and concentrate on tomorrow's Cup tie with Hamilton following yet another reverse against the Rugby Park side. "We have either been reasonably good this campaign or really quite poor. We have to get answers as to why this is the case. Against Dundee and St Johnstone, we played well and won but against Motherwell and Kilmarnock, we just didn't perform at all. The youth element in the team certainly goes some way to explaining our up and down season but we will certainly have to sort this level of inconsistency."

Alex admitted that the visitors' certainly deserved their win. "Kilmarnock fully merited taking all three points. We never gave Gordon Marshall much to worry about and at the moment, they keep on getting a result against us. The groundstaff had worked tirelessly to get the game on and we struggled to get started. It was the same for both sides so we cannot blame the pitch for our performance. It is good that we have a game tomorrow so quickly on the back of Saturday's match. Hopefully we can get the defeat out of our system."
