MALPAS PLEASED WITH U-21 PERFORMANCE

21st March 2002

After the brave performance of the young Tangerines in the match against Aberdeen at Tannadice on Wednesday night which resulted in a 1-1 draw, Under-21's Manager Maurice Malpas was delighted with this week's turn-around of his team's fortunes. In an interview the following morning, he stated: "The lads did extremely well last night, especially if you bear in mind that in the second half we fielded six youth players against a far more experienced Aberdeen side. Particularly outstanding were O'Donnell, McMillan, Ogunmade and Burns who put United into the lead a quarter of an hour into the game. The criticism in the wake of our defeat against Hearts the other week has met with a positive response on the part of the players and we are very pleased with the results. The important thing now is to continue in this vein the following week when we play Kilmarnock away on Monday and Celtic at home on Wednesday."

Maurice went on to confirm that the Manager was interested in having another look at the two trialists in action at last night's game.
