The young Tangerines were unlucky not to take any points from this evening's U-21's clash with counterparts Livingston at Tannadice. Had it not been for a saved penalty, when Livi keeper McEwan first from the spot and then from a rebound shot, United might have well gained a well-deserved share of the spoils if not taken all three points. In a game with plenty of action at either end and no paucity of goal-scoring chances, Livingston took the lead in 35 minutes thanks to a magnificent Nivica Jokovic lob from an acute angle. Following a foul on Danny Ogunmade in the box at the beginning of the second half, United were awarded their opportunity to draw even but Winters's effort was first blocked and then saved.
After the match, Under-21's Manager Maurice Malpas commented: "Whilst obviously disappointed with the result, I am more than delighted with the overall performance of the side which is probably the youngest team I have ever selected. Particularly outstanding were Anderson, Allum, O'Donnell, McConalogue and Gartland. We are confident of putting on a similarly strong performance this Wednesday when we face Forfar in the Semi-finals of the Forfarshire Cup."
