United defeated Forfar Athletic in a penalty shoot-out in the Forfarshire Cup yesterday evening at Station Park. United fielded a team comprising mainly of Under-21 and Under-18 players although Jim Paterson started the match as did Carson, McConalogue and Winters.
Forfar went ahead in the 50th minute through Moffat and with United set to make an exit from the competition, McGowan headed an equaliser in the last five minutes to take the tie straight to penalty kicks with no extra time played. Keeper Jarvie saved three penalties including one from former Tangerine Scott McCulloch and United won 3-1 on penalties.
