SMITH KEEN TO SIGN WRIGHT

New United manager Alex Smith has confirmed his interest in former Scotland defender Stephen Wright. Smith liked what he saw when 28 year-old Wright played in a closed-doors affair on Tuesday and he admitted, "I am now keen to take matters a stage further by discussing terms with Stephen. Clearly I want him at Tannadice, but much will depend on his end of the bargaining. It was the fist time I had seen him play for a long time and he played well, just as I expected".

Smith also admitted to being impressed with another couple of United's trialists in the game but he remains adamant,"I will not be involved in signing any player who will not play a part in making Dundee United better".
