EASTON FOR FULLARTON AGAINST SAINTS

5th December 2000

Despite wet weather in the West, there were no plans for a pre-match pitch inspection at Love Street by Tuesday afternoon. Therefore with United's rearranged fixture against St Mirren being given the green light, boss Alex Smith pencilled in a similar squad to the one which set off on a fruitless journey on Saturday.

Dropping out though, are teenagers David Winters and Jamie McCunnie who hope for involvement in the Youth Cup game against Rangers at Tannadice (kick-off 7pm, weather permitting). Defender David McCracken is included in the first team squad for Paisley, as is striker Jim Hamilton who has a chance of his first league appearance under Smith.

Midfielder Craig Easton is set to play in place of unlucky Jamie Fullarton, but Eastie's appearance at Love Street will sandwich between suspensions.

Smith said, "Craig is a similar type to Jamie in that he is enthusiastic and can spur on those around him. We are fortunate that the likes of Craig can come in and I know he will be keen to do well. Craig's type can be important in this kind of game. It's a big one for us, as a win will go a long wait to turning things round. There is a great sense of togetherness among the squad, and there's no question the lads are very focused."
