MONTROSE WIN TIE AND FACE UNITED

25th January 2001

Montrose's extra time win over Keith on Wednesday night means United now know they will be travelling to Links Park in the Scottish Cup Third Round on Saturday.

That suits manager Alex Smith who was pleased his team would only be making a short trip north east, though he knows a tough tie awaits at Links Park.

"Like all these ties, Montrose will be up for it and it is up to us to match their attitude and take the game to them," said Alex. "The fact they needed extra time to beat Keith helps us because they could have a few tired legs, but I'm sure it is going to be a good old fashioned cup tie."

Long-term injury absentee David Hannah continues to make good progress and while Saturday will come too soon for him, the derby at Dens next Wednesday is a possibility. Argentine striker Beto Nevada is also close to a return following a twisted knee, though he too will not be on duty at Links Park.
