Tannadice boss Alex Smith admits that he has few selection concerns to contend with for the big midweek derby date across the street at Dens Park. Charlie Miller's replacement in the cup win at Montrose last Saturday was explained away as simply "a chance to offer Charlie a wee rest".
The midfielder will make it but suspended trio Alan Combe, David Partridge and Hasney Aljofree will miss out on the big occasion. The absences of the last-named pair create openings on United's left flank and Jamie Buchan, Neil Heaney, Tassos Venetis and Hugh Davidson are amongst the alternatives open to the Manager. And he added, "There is also the possibility of a recall for John McQuillan, with Craig Easton moving across from the right".
New Spanish signing Raul Sanchez will not be considered for the derby, as boss Smith feels that the big occasion is one for experience to handle. Smith feels that United's derby record this season does not offer a true reflection of events. He commented, "The 3-0 defeat in the last game at Dens was an incredible result, considering the number of chances that we created in the first half. The second meeting was evenly fought for much of the time, although Dundee probably deserved to win it overall".
