Injury comeback man Jim Paterson has been given the go-ahead to step up training, but the unlucky winger is still some way off being ready for first team duty. The former Scotland schools captain is making a satisfactory recovery from his leg break and got the all-clear at his recent hospital check-up. However, he was advised to restrict his training to non-contact exercises for the time being.
Boss Alex Smith said, "He's got his plaster off and will now work at hard running over the next five or six weeks. The normal training will not start for Jim until well into March and so I can't envisage him being back in the first team until mid-April at least. It's such a hard slog for the lad, but we must ensure that he makes a complete and absolute recovery this time."
Another injury victim, Stephen Wright has also returned to training, while fully fit again David Hannah is set to be involved in United's next Under-21 fixture on Thursday evening away versus Dunfermline.
