Thursday night's Under-21 fixture at Dunfermline, which looks set to be given the go-ahead, will provide several players who have recently been out of the limelight to start knocking on the first team door again. Injury comeback man David Hannah, for example, will get his first taste of competitive action since picking up a groin strain in November.
Boss Alex Smith said, "Dave will play part of the game and may well come right into the reckoning for Saturday's cup-tie at Motherwell. A player of his experience and level of fitness doesn't need to go through the usual three or four games it would take to be ready for first team action."
Also included in the second string squad for East End Park are midfielders Tony Smith and Tassos Venetis, along with striker Mvondo Atangana - all of whom are candidates for top team recalls.
Goalkeeper Alan Combe is another ready to take part, while new signing Raul Sanchez will get some much-needed action having failed to get his opportunity to-date. "The wintry weather has meant that Raul has not played a competitive game for us since he came to Tannadice," added Smith. "I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do because he's been showing plenty of promise in training."
