INJURY LIST REDUCES

7th February 2001

There was even more good news on the injury comeback front on Wednesday with midfielders Davie Hannah and John Licina being declared fit for weekend selection, if required. With long-term absentees Stephen Wright, Jim Paterson, and Jamie Fullarton all reported to be making excellent progress, boss Alex Smith could soon be facing a rare but welcome wealth of selection options.

Both Hannah and Licina come into contention after making good use of the winter break to shrug off the knocks which kept them out of action over the festive period. Boss Smith said, "David and John came through a practice match last Thursday with no ill effects. They are fit for selection on Saturday at Dunfermline if necessary although I would prefer them to maybe get another game under their belts to step up match fitness."

Meanwhile, the wintry weather which forced the call-off of the midweek SPL meeting at Aberdeen has done its best to spoil United's training schedules. However, the ground staff have been working overtime to ensure only minimal disruption. Smith added, "The track-side at Tannadice was cleared of snow which allowed running to take place. Over at Gussie the shovels were out to get rid of most of the snow there. That allowed plenty of crossing and shooting practice so training has been ok under the circumstances."
