CUP BOOST FOR TANGERINES’ FANS

2nd February 2001

Dundee United are again to meet the costs of supporters' buses as a thank you to fans who have stuck by the Club this Season. Working with the Federation of Dundee United Supporters' Clubs, United will lay on free buses for Tangerines' fans travelling to the Scottish Cup tie against Motherwell at Fir Park on February 17th. "This has been a difficult season for United fans - but the response from them has been absolutely magnificent", said Chairman Doug Smith. "Alex Smith and the players know how important the fans' backing has become and anyone who saw the derby game against Dundee will know what a huge part the United supporters played in the victory. Our support must make us the envy of other clubs in the SPL. Paying the buses is a gesture by way of saying of thanks." Mike Barile, President of the Federation of Dundee United Supporters' Clubs commented: "This is another boost for the fans and we are delighted to accept this latest offer of free buses from the Club. Season ticket sales at United are up almost 20% on last year and I'm sure we'll get a massive response from fans keen for a good run in the Cup."
