PROUD ARABS LOSE AT HAMPDEN

15th April 2001

Two Celtic second-half goals within sixty seconds, one of them a penalty, was a crushing blow to a United team who dominated proceedings in the second half to such an extent that the only crowd noise was coming from the Tangerine Army.

Celtic had taken the lead on the half-hour mark when Henryk Larsson headed in from a very tight angle in a first half where the pace of the play seemed to be adversely affected by the disappointing condition of the Hampden pitch.

A Derek Lilley goal four minutes from the end was scant reward for ninety minutes of effort by the team in tangerine but was the moment most savoured by an indefatigable United support who were simply superb; the best United support for years.
