'HAMMY' DOUBTFUL FOR PITTODRIE

3rd April 2001

Time appears to be running out for Tangerines' striker Jim Hamilton, as Alex Smith's men prepare for the visit to face Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

Hammy was forced out of last weekend's fine win at Ibrox due to achilles trouble, and his chances of facing his former employers were rated as "extremely slim". That would appear to open the door for a return to a starting place for Dave Hannah, now free of suspension.

However, boss Smith may prove to be loathe to switch the formation which proved so successful at Ibrox. Steven Thompson, who staked his claim with his all-important opener against Rangers, may retain the slot alongside Derek Lilley and Paul Robinson in a three-man attack.

Alex Smith rates the north-east derby clash as vital to United's hopes for the run-in to the end of the season. He pointed out: "If we can get a positive result from this one, then it would ease our problems. At the same time it would place further pressures on St Mirren."
