Manager Alex Smith has set his sights on a winning run between now and the end of the season to ensure United are still an SPL side next season.
He wants his team to use Saturday's home clash with Motherwell as the starting point for a winning run just like they did at Christmas. "When we beat them at Tannadice on Boxing Day, we had a very good spell after that and the same again would get us to safety," he said on Friday. "If you like, St Mirren and ourselves are involved in our own mini-championship. We are ahead in it and if we keep on winning we will stay that way."
After playing in Canada's win over Iran in Egypt on Thursday night and making the long trip back to Scotland on Friday, skipper Jason de Vos is almost certain to be left out. Danny Griffin is favourite to drop back from midfield and partner Jim Lauchlan in defence.
