Dens Derby Tomorrow

7th April 2015

Tickets for Wednesday’s Dundee derby remain on sale for the United supporters’ sections. Priced at £25 for adults and £15 for concessions (65+, Under 16s, FTS), tickets can be purchased in person over the counter at the Tannadice ticket centre or by phone on 01382 833166 (option 1 or 3). Tickets will remain on sale until 5pm on Wednesday evening unless sold out beforehand. Ticket collection must also be before 5pm on Wednesday. The Hegarty Suite will be open for United fans from 5pm and will remain open until last orders at 10.45pm. Ahead of the match, Manager Jackie McNamara was in bullish mood as he spoke about the need to defend well and give the United fans some much needed cheer.   Jackie said, “We have not defended well recently and that is something that we need to improve. We are more than capable of scoring goals with us second joint top goalscorers this season but if we defend like we have recently we will lose goals. The players are focused on improving the defensive side as well as believing in themselves in an attacking sense.   “The fans will again turn up in numbers and we know how important our record against Dundee is to the fans. It is important to the staff and players also and we are all keen to taste victory in the derby once more.”

The mind set of the players going into this one is of a respectful yet assured positivity.   Midfielder John Rankin said, “There is a determination, a desire within our dressing room that I believe will see us come out on top. We know what is required to win a derby match. They are great occasions to take part in and you can sense the anticipation within the camp and through training this week.”

United come into the game on a poor run of form, accentuated by four bruising battles against Celtic in recent weeks, but with a steely determination to get the hunt for Europa League qualification back on course. A late fitness assessment will be made on Ryan Dow and whilst Ryan McGowan returns from suspension the game comes too soon for Mario Bilate and Calum Morris.   Hosts Dundee are buoyed by the news of contract extension for highly rated goalkeeper Scott Bain and a run of form which has catapulted them into the top six hunt.   It is over ten years since Dundee FC were victorious in a Dundee derby and this is a statistic which both camps will be keen to embellish in their respective ways. United fans see this game as the final obstacle to a successful season for derby matches - although the prospect of another Dundee derby this season remains a possibility should both teams secure top six places.   The match is live on Sky Sports once again and ArabZONE members can listen in through the usual channel.
